What happens to unfilled positions from the first iteration of the R-1 Match?

After the Match Day for first iteration has passed, there are always positions that go unfilled. These positions will be posted on carms.ca and will be available during the second iteration. The positions can, however, become competitive, meaning they are available for all eligible applicant types.
