What does it mean when an applicant has been waitlisted?

Programs will typically use the waitlist function to advise applicants that a first round of interview offers has gone out. Depending on the number of applicants that schedule an interview after this first round of offers, a second round of offers may be sent to the applicants who have been waitlisted.

Typically, programs will update this status prior to the interview period starting, depending on the match.
