Why is the CaRMS self-identification questionnaire being implemented?

Safety, fairness, and equity are guiding principles of the CaRMS Match, and we are committed to fostering these values within Canadian medical education. As our community works to find ways to make the world of medical education more inclusive and diverse, CaRMS is doing all that we can to support and inform these efforts.

Before we can chart the path forward, we need to understand our starting point—that’s why we’re introducing the CaRMS self-identification questionnaire in the 2022 R-1 match.

This questionnaire will invite applicants to share information about how they identify in several areas related to equity, diversity, and inclusion, with the goal of understanding the composition of the applicant pool and laying the groundwork for future progress.
