CaRMS has identified enabling EDI initiatives for our clients as a strategic priority in early 2021. Before we can chart the path forward, we need to understand our starting point—that’s why we have introduced the CaRMS self-identification questionnaire.
This questionnaire invites applicants to share information about how they identify in several areas, with the goal of gathering information about the composition of the applicant pool and the current state of the application, selection and match process in relation to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
The CaRMS self-identification questionnaire is entirely voluntary, but we hope applicants complete it—whether they identify as a member of an equity seeking group or not. All information is kept confidential and held securely by CaRMS.
The CSIQ was developed in consultation with the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion, and with feedback and support from :
- Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS);
- Fédération médicale étudiante du Québec (FMEQ);
- Resident Doctors of Canada (RDoC);
- Fédération des médecins résidents du Québec (FMRQ);
- Postgraduate deans and undergraduate and student affairs leadership;
- Representatives from the Black Medical Students Association of Canada (BMSAC), Indigenous Medical Students Association of Canada (IMSAC), and Canadian Association of Physicians with Disabilities (CAPD).
