What does 'accreditation status' mean?

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, The College of Family Physicians of Canada and The Collège des médecins du Québec are responsible for residency program accreditation in Canada.

When participating in a CaRMS match, Postgraduate Medical Education Offices are required to declare the accreditation status of their participating residency programs within their program descriptions.

For CaRMS purposes, there are four accreditation statuses available for selection:

  • Pending accreditation
  • Accredited
  • Notice of intent to withdraw accreditation
  • Accredited through joint institutional agreement

CaRMS cannot provide accreditation definitions or further information, as we are not involved in the accreditation process of residency programs. For more information on the accreditation of residency programs, please contact your Postgraduate Medical Education Office or the Colleges responsible for accreditation.
