The Government of Quebec defines several streams (contingents) for admission to postgraduate medical education. The two main streams are the regular stream and the particular stream.
Positions offered in the particular stream are available during the second iteration of the R-1 match.
Particular stream positions are intended for individuals who do not meet the criteria for the regular stream, notably:
Physicians already in practice;
Individuals wishing to re-enter a residency program after a cessation (withdrawal, exclusion, etc.);
Residents enrolled in another Canadian province;
International medical graduates (outside Canada and the U.S.) who have obtained recognition of the equivalence of their MD but do not have permanent resident status in Canada or who have already done a residency in Canada or in the United States (including a fellowship);
French citizens holding a State diploma who wish to benefit from the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA).
The positions offered in this stream are:
Funded separately by the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS).
- Created mainly to address specific needs and are not primarily intended to contribute to overall physician workforce planning in Quebec.
Positions available within the particular stream depends on several factors, including first-iteration match results and institutional decisions regarding the allocation of positions they are authorized to offer.
As a result, the number of positions ultimately offered may be fewer than initially indicated, or there may be no positions available in the particular stream for certain programs in the second iteration of the match.
Who is eligible to apply for particular stream programs in Quebec in the second iteration of R-1?
What are all the different application streams in the R-1 Match?
